  • Alma Mater: Mississippi State University (BA, 1981) / Northeast Louisiana University (M.Ed, 1983)
  • Started coaching as a graduate assistant at Northeast Louisiana (now Louisiana-Monroe) under head coach Mike Vining before joining Gene Iba‘s staff at Houston Baptist in 1983
    • Iba left the school in 1985 but Marlin spent four more seasons as an assistant for new head coach Tommy Jones
  • Spent one year on Dana Altman‘s staff at Marshall before becoming the head coach at Pensacola Junior College (FL)
    • Went 123-35 overall in five seasons at PJC and won the 1993 NJCAA National Championship
  • Returned to D-I in 1995 as an assistant to David Hobbs at Alabama; took over as head coach at Sam Houston State in 1998
  • Became the head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette (now Louisiana) in 2010
