Dr. John Giannini fired after 14 seasons at La Salle

Dr. John Giannini, who had been the head coach of the La Salle Explorers for the last fourteen seasons, announced on Friday that he would “step down” from his position. Giannini went 212-226 during his tenure and will be most remembered for the Explorers’ Sweet Sixteen run in 2013, the first for the program since finishing as runner-up in 1955.

Giannini’s arc at La Salle is marked by a steady build up from a 10-win program to back-to-back postseason berths in his 8th (NIT) and 9th (NCAA) years. However the last five seasons have been a regression, including three straight losing seasons that ultimately led to this decision.

The only name we have seen pop up so far came from ESPN’s Jeff Goodman: former Explorer standout and current ESPN analyst Tim Legler.
