Ken Burmeister fired after 12 seasons at Incarnate Word

Incarnate Word has fired head basketball coach Ken Burmeister after 12 seasons withe the program. Burmeister took over the program in 2006 when it was still in the Division II Heartland Conference and helped guide the team through a transition into Division I play.

After multiple conference titles and Tournament appearances at the D-II level, the first few D-I years also saw success. The Cardinals won 16+ games in each of the first three seasons and went to the CIT in 2015. But the last two years have been a marked decline, with this year’s team finishing just 7-21 (2-1) at the bottom of the conference and a non-qualifier for the Southland Tournament.

The 70-year old Burmeister has head coaching experience at the Division I, II and III levels. Prior to UIW, Burmeister coached at Loyola (IL), UTSA and D-III Trinity in Texas.
