  • Born September 23, 1964
  • Hometown: Shelby, Montana
  • Alma Mater: University of Montana (BA, 1996)
  • Played at Montana for head coach Mike Montgomery; the only player to win Big Sky POY honors three times (1984-86)
    • Drafted 28th overall in the 1986 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls
    • Played professionally in the NBA from 1986-1997 on the Spurs, Bucks, Jazz, Magic, Bulls and Lakers
  • First coaching job was as an assistant at Montana under Dan Holst from 1998-2000
    • Then spent one year as an assistant to Blaine Taylor at Old Dominion
  • Spent one year as head coach of the Idaho Stampede of the CBA, going 37-16 overall and reaching the 2004 CBA final
  • In two seasons as the head coach at Montana, led the Grizzlies to Big Sky Tournament titles and trips to the NCAA Tournament
  • Coached the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks at the end of 2006-07 and for all of the 2007-08 season, going 31-69 overall
  • Hired as the Utah head coach in April 2011, taking the Utes from 6-25 in his first year to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen by 2015
    • Went to the NCAA Tournament twice (2015 & 2016) and finished as runners-up in the 2018 NIT
    • Fired in March 2021 after ten seasons at the helm; left with an overall record of 183-139
  • Along with his wife, Jan, has three sons and twin daughters
