Tony Pujol named head coach at North Alabama

The first North Alabama head coach of the Division I era will be former Alabama assistant Tony Pujol, who has been at Wyoming for the past two years.

Though not at the collegiate level, Pujol does have extensive head coaching experience at two South Florida high schools earlier in his career. He won three state championships at Northwest Christian Academy before moving up to the college game in 2004.

North Alabama is transitioning to Division I starting with the 2018-19 season, joining the Atlantic Sun Conference to replace USC Upstate. The school fired long-time head coach Bobby Champagne at the close of the Lion’s 2017-18 campaign.
