Mythical comeback from 2019 ― Mario Kart World hides long-awaited feature

Back in February of 1996, Pokémon began its journey with Red and Green, released exclusively in Japan. Nearly three decades later, the franchise has been through numerous evolutions, but one long-requested feature always remained just out of reach. Now, some rumors suggest that Generation 10 may finally deliver on those promises and take players to a place different from anything we’ve seen so far in the game.

Gen 10 may explore ruins, legends, and uncharted seas

According to some online sources, including the famous Pokémon leaks account Centro Leaks, Generation 10 of Pokémon is rumored to be in development under the codename “Gaia”, and it may be set in a region based on the Cyclades, a Greek Island. Though the Pokémon Company has not yet confirmed any of this, the idea increased the fans’ anticipation for this next launch.

The Greek setting would allow the franchise to explore themes that haven’t been touched deeply — mythology, classic ruins, ancient legends, and more. The region would likely consist of a series of islands, creating a significant focus on exploration and sea travel.

Moreover, the setting on the island can bring a game dynamic focused on more challenges with water-type Pokémon, which is one of the most abundant of all types. This kind of cultural depth and environmental variety could push the franchise into new territory — not only geographically, but narratively and visually as well.

A historic change: Aggressive Pokémon in the sea

Perhaps the most surprising rumor involves a maybe worrying gameplay mechanic: encountering wild Pokémon while swimming or sailing, and not just passive ones, but aggressive sea creatures. Reports mention Pokémon like Sharpedo and Veluza as examples of enemies that could attack on sight in open water, which were reasons for a lot of headaches for the players in previous Pokémon titles like Pokémon Sword and Shield.

This would be a major shift in how the franchise treats ocean exploration. In older games, water routes often served merely as pathways. Generation 10 could transform them into real danger zones, requiring strategy, attention, and perhaps even stealth or quick reflexes.

If confirmed, this would mean that sea travel wouldn’t just be a means for transition — it would be part of the challenge. This concept has existed in fan discussions for years but has never made it into a mainline game. Implementing it now, nearly 30 years later, would be a remarkable addition.

Gaia: A name with meaning

The rumored codename “Gaia” is not random. In Greek mythology, Gaia is the personification of the Earth — the mother of all life. It’s a powerful name that could signal Pokémon’s attempt to reconnect with themes of nature, origin, and legacy. A Greek-inspired region could introduce new Pokémon based on famous mythical creatures, like maybe the Minotaur, the Chimera, or the Hydra. It’s the perfect opportunity to create some of the boldest and most imaginative designs the franchise has ever seen.

Moreover, such a setting might reflect a shift in Pokémon’s target audience. While still accessible to children, it seems Gen 10 could also be crafted with longtime fans in mind — those who’ve followed the series since 1996 and are now adults. A mythological backdrop allows for richer storytelling and more mature themes.

Although there is still no official confirmation about Pokémon Gen 10, the rumors are enough to generate a level of eagerness among fans. The setting in the Greek islands, the abundance of water Pokémon, and the incorporation of mythology would promise an innovative and engaging experience. After 30 years, the franchise may finally fulfill a version that’s been alive since its earliest days. And perhaps, it will happen in a land inspired by legends.
