A new round of payment of up to $4,000 may be on the table for those who qualify due to a data breach settlement involving the well-known culinary and kitchenware retailer, Sur La Table. The accusation placed against Sur La Table is that a lack of safety measures led to the personal information of thousands of customers being exposed during the 2023 data breach. Notifications have been received by all Sur La Table customers and employees who may receive a share of the settlement compensation.

What was Sur La Table accused of?

Back in March 2023, hackers gained access to Sur La Table’s computer systems and in the process gained access to sensitive consumer and employee data. The personal information that hackers gained access to included Social Security numbers, insurance data, medical information, as well as driver’s license information.

After the data breach, all of the affected customers and employees were informed of the breach via a letter sent on May 24, 2023. From the number of notifications sent out, it seems more than 40,000 people are eligible to receive a share of the payout.

Following the data breach, accusations were made against Sur La Table for the failure to protect the personal information of customers and employees by not having proper cybersecurity measures in place and for failing to monitor systems for threats.

Sur La Table has denied all allegations of wrongdoing but has nevertheless agreed to a data breach settlement amounting to $550,000 so as to put this case to bed.

What can eligible claimants receive from the data breach settlement?

All eligible class action members who received the notification letter from Sur La Table can receive:

  • Up to $4,000: Claimants who can provide proof of out-of-pocket losses incurred due to the data breach can receive up to $4,000. This is inclusive of costs that escalated due to identity theft, fraud, professional fees, as well as credit monitoring.
  • Pro rata cash payments: These payments are on offer for those who cannot produce proof of documented losses, and the amount received by each claimant will depend on how many people file claims.
  • Extra $100 payment: All California residents will gain an additional $100 due to state-specific privacy laws.
  • Free credit monitoring and identity theft protection: This is on offer for claimants, irrespective of which option they choose to file a claim for.

All 40,646 individuals are eligible to receive a share of the Sur La Table data breach settlement agreement fee as well as have the chance to receive free credit monitoring services, which is deemed of utmost necessity due to the rise of cyberattacks. This data breach settlement is rather similar to the 23andMe data breach settlement that held the genetic testing company accountable for failing to prevent personal information from landing in the wrong hands.

Who qualifies for the settlement agreement, and what are the key dates to note?

All eligible claimants for this data breach settlement would have received a breach notification letter from Sur La Table. Claimants who are filing a claim to gain up to $4,000 must have all the relevant documentation to support their reimbursement claim.

Once deemed eligible for a share of the settlement fee, a valid claim form must be filled out by July 7, 2025. To file a claim:

  • Visit the official settlement website.
  • Use the confirmation code and ID that were provided in the notification letter to complete the form.
  • Attach the necessary documentation depending on the type of claim filed.

While all claims must be submitted by July 7, 2025, the deadline for exclusions and objections has already expired on June 5, 2025. The final court approval hearing will take place on August 27, 2025.

This Sur La Table data breach settlement is yet another data breach settlement similar to the Retina Group of Washington data breach settlement which held the company accountable for not protecting consumer data.

For more information about this settlement, you can visit Top Class Actions and get informed about how to file a claim.

Disclaimer: You should not submit false or inflated claims under penalty of perjury, as class‑action claim forms historically required declarations signed “under penalty of perjury” to ensure authenticity. Submitting a fraudulent claim not only carries legal exposure—including potential civil and criminal sanctions—but also harms other eligible class members by diluting the available settlement pool.
