The emergence of a new French rival is going to turn the world of electric performance cars upside down. Renault, with its historic brand Alpine, offers the A390, an unbelievable all-electric crossover, which will unite the French spirit and the latest technologies with uncompromised power. With its blue-bragging color and as much as 470 hp powerplant, the A390 is about to give Porsche and Tesla a hint that not everything that glitters in the EV sector has to be hydrogen.
Alpine A390 official reveal: The moment the world first laid eyes on the all-blue EV
For months, Alpine has been developing the anticipation, and now the wait is ended. May 27, 2025, 5:00 PM CET is the official release date of the Alpine A390. Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo and Alpine CEO Philippe Krief will host the event, a landmark moment for the French marque. Its combination of aggressive appearance, cutting-edge technology, and up to 470 HP places it squarely in the fight in the electric crossover segment.
The A390, Alpine’s first-ever electric crossover, is already causing a buzz with its sporty design, aggressive wheel arches, and blue signature finish. According to autoevolution, “the car is visible under a cover with the lights on, and its sporty profile can be seen partially.”
That is how the design and engineering of Alpine make the A390 a showstopper
The A390 body is a masterclass in modern French design. An LED light bar slices through thin headlights, with a wide center air intake and sporty trim forming an angry face at the front. Flush door handles and dipping roofline add to the form of the car, the back of which features a ducktail spoiler and slim LED light bar. The A390 is 181.7 inches long and 74.2 inches wide, the biggest car Alpine has ever made. Inside, the A390 takes the A290 hatch’s steering wheel but little else of the interior.
Performance unleashed: For 470 HP, this French electric car delivers more than looks
Hidden under its good-looking bodywork is a true powerhouse. The flagship GTS model comes with a tri-motor setup, which produces up to 463 horsepower and 596 lb-ft of torque. This helps the A390 GTS rocket from 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 137 mph. Even the base GT model is formidable at 396 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. Both feature an 89 kWh battery, to WLTP up to a range of 345 miles and 190 kW fast charging.
“The A390 comes in two trim levels, the GT and GTS. Both feature a tri-motor setup with one front motor and two rear motors,” Autoblog says.
The A390 also features an “overtake” mode on the steering wheel, 10 10-second power boost when hard acceleration alone will do. It is precisely this that Alpine’s technology and top-of-the-line luxuries make the A390 the real challenger of Porsche and Tesla.
The Alpine A390 is ready to electrify the performance crossover world
The A390 interior is comfortable and high-performance. Nappa leather Sabelt bucket seats, a massage feature, and an 850-watt, 13-speaker Devialet sound system are in the high-end GTS trims.12.3-inch digital driver’s instrument cluster and 12-inch portrait infotainment screen position all the data the driver requires within easy access. Alpine “Drive Sound” profiles enable drivers to choose between “Daily” or “Sport” synthetic engine noises, yet another source of thrill for every drive.
With the official release, the Alpine A390 marks the return of a new generation of French high-performance cars. Its combination of aggressive appearance, cutting-edge technology, and up to 470 HP places it squarely in the fight in the electric crossover segment. Now that Alpine is among the contenders, the A390 proves that the future of performance is electric—and blue as rock.
