Amorim facing uncertain future

EPL clubs shatter transfer record on deadline day

Alexander Isak finally on his way to Liverpool

Manchester United pick up first three points of the season

Ruben Amorim might be on his way out of Manchester United, following reports that the United board’s patience is running thin. Manchester United have struggled to play at the same level that Sir Alex Ferguson pioneered since the iconic Scot left the club. Following a string of poor performances, the writing is on the wall for Amorim as he faces a real possibility of being replaced. Last season was a write-off for Amorim and United as they finished the season in 15th place, their worst finish in the club’s long and triumphant history. Reports suggest that he has only a few games left to figure things out and start producing some results.

United’s poor start to the season has led to a crisis in the dressing room

United ended last season with its worst record ever. The heads at Manchester United have been searching for a suitable replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson. Despite several top managers coming to Old Trafford, the results have not been positive. Amorim came from Sporting Lisbon to join United after the previous manager, Ten Haag, opted to leave following similar results.

United came into the new season with so much promise, which quickly disappeared following some disastrous results. Despite spending a ridiculous amount of money bringing in several new players, including Brian Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Matheus Cunha. Despite those positive moves in the transfer market, United have only managed a single point from two Premier League games.

The loss to Grimsby Town has led to reports of Amorim being fired

United had an opportunity to turn things around and finally get a win under their belt this season when they faced up against fourth-tier side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup. The game started with a shock to the system for United as they were outplayed and were quickly 2-0 down. They managed to rally the troops and bring the game level.

So penalties were on the cards, up stepped United’s new signings. What must have been going through their heads is anyone’s guess, but they were clearly not focused on the task at hand. Mbeumo hit the post, while Cunha skied his penalty. Sesko managed to score his, but by that time, the writing was on the wall for United, and they were knocked out of the competition for the first time since 2014. After the game, Amorim was quick to lay the blame on his players.

“The way we started the game, we were not even here. When everything is so important in our club, everything that happened it’s a problem in our club; we should do so much better. I just have to say sorry to our fans, but I felt my players spoke really loud today what they want. I think now I know that the best team won, the only team that was on the pitch. And I think my team and the players spoke really loud today.” – Ruben Amorim

United’s board is reportedly searching for a replacement for Amorim

Manchester United have publicly stated that they are behind their man; however, reports from several media outlets suggest that behind closed doors, they are exploring several managers as a possible replacement for Amorim. He has stated that if results don’t improve, he would step away willingly. Among the potential replacements are FA Cup and Europa League-winning boss Oliver Glasner, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, and last but not least, the legendary Zinedine Zidane. Amorim has limited time to turn things around and compete with the likes of Liverpool, who are embroiled in the Newcastle/Isak saga. Will he stay or will he go? A question that United fans have become accustomed to in recent years.
