Arkansas State expected to hire Baylor assistant Grant McCasland

Arkansas State appears to have found its next head men’s basketball coach in Baylor assistant Grant McCasland. Spending the last five seasons on Scott Drew‘s Baylor staff, McCasland has head coaching experience at both the Division II (Midwestern State) and JUCO (Midland College) levels.

Arkansas State has made just one NCAA Tournament appearance at the Division I level, playing as a 15-seed in 1999 under head coach Dickey Nutt. Meanwhile, Baylor is a 5-seed in the NCAA Tournament, with their first game being this Thursday against Yale. An official introduction is not expected until after the Bears’ season concludes.

McCasland is a graduate of both Baylor (BS, 1999) and Texas Tech (MS, 2001). He was a player at Baylor and a graduate assistant at Texas Tech, which kickstarted his coaching career. At Arkansas State, McCasland will be replacing John Brady, who resigned following the 2015-16 season.
