- Father is Maurice Howard, a former Maryland player who spent some time in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers
- After a prep career at Monsignor Bonner, played three seasons at Drexel under head coaches Steve Seymour and Bruiser Flint
- Injuries ended his playing career in 2002, though he stayed with the Dragons program for two more years as a student assistant under Flint while finishing his degree
- Joined the coaching staff at La Salle in 2004 as an assistant under Dr. John Giannini, staying with the Explorers for four seasons
- Returned to alma mater Drexel in 2008 as an assistant under Flint for five seasons
- Moved on to Villanova in 2013, spending the next five years as an assistant coach under Jay Wright
- His time with the Wildcats included two NCAA National Championships (2016 & 2018)
- Hired in April 2018 to be the new head coach of the La Salle Explorers
- In four seasons, Howard went 45-71 with no postseason appearances; fired in March 2022
- In May 2023, after a year off, Howard returned to Villanova to be an assistant under new head coach Kyle Neptune
