REPORT: Bacari Alexander will be next Detroit Mercy head coach

Detroit Mercy alum and long-time Michigan assistant Bacari Alexander is slated to be the next head coach of the Titans, according to a report from ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. Alexander had long been considered the front-runner for the job, appearing to be the perfect fit to replace fired head coach Ray McCallum Sr.

Not only did Alexander play at Detroit, but he’s also a native of the city. The connections to the school and city made him an obvious candidate for the open position. He’s spent most of his coaching career in the Great Lakes State, as an assistant at Detroit (2001-2007), Western Michigan (2008-2010) and now with John Beilein and the Wolverines (since 2010).

Alexander would be the second Michigan assistant to take a head coaching job in the Horizon League this offseason, after LaVall Jordan was hired as Milwaukee‘s new head coach.
