Bad news for SSA beneficiaries ― Millions won’t receive any check on Wednesday

When it comes to Social Security Administration (SSA) benefits, many citizens eagerly await their Social Security benefits and their Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment every month.  About 69 million American citizens expect these benefits to be paid out monthly. This month, bad news is in store for SSA beneficiaries.

Bad news for those not receiving a Social Security payment this Wednesday

While many recipients are anticipating an SSI payment to make its way into their bank accounts this June, there will be no such payment arriving in bank accounts this month. Citizens will have to wait until next month to receive an SSI payment. This is not the result of a processing error on the part of the SSA, but is based on how the days of this month fall on the calendar.

The way the calendar dates fall this month has created much confusion for beneficiaries, especially for those who are wondering why no SSI payments are arriving in June, as well as those anticipating a Social Security payment by the second Wednesday of the month.

This month, the first SSA payment will only go out on the second Wednesday of the month. This June, only beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of any month will receive their payments by Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

Social Security payments are usually based on birthdays, and as such, the payment schedule for the month will be as follows:

  • Birthdays between the 1st and 10th of a month- payment on June 11.
  • Birthdays between the 11th and 20th of a month-payment on June 18.
  • Birthdays between the 21st and 31st of June- payment on June 25.

All beneficiaries with birthdays from the 11th to 31st of any month will not receive their Social Security on June 11 and will have to wait beyond the middle of the month to receive payments. This is further bad news since some citizens won’t receive any SSI checks this June either.

Understanding why no SSI checks this June

The hardest blow for SSA beneficiaries this month is that no Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will be received by eligible recipients in the month of June 2025. The reason for no SSI checks this month is that SSI beneficiaries received two SSI payments in May. The first SSI payment was received on May 1, and the second SSI payment was received on May 30.

The payment on May 30 served as an advance payment for June, as June 1 fell on the first Sunday of the month. SSA, as such, does not issue payments on weekends or holidays. Since the advanced payment covered the SSI payment for June, no other SSI payment will be processed in June.

As per the Social Security payment schedule and the calendar, payments seem to arrive differently this month. Nevertheless, SSA beneficiaries are advised to budget accordingly as the next SSI payment will arrive on Tuesday, July 1. In July, the normal payment schedule should resume, however, the fact that there will be no more payments until mid-June for many SSA beneficiaries is rather unsettling.

Social Security payments will go out later in June

While many Social Security recipients will have to deal with the fact that they won’t receive their benefits on the second Wednesday of the month, all Social Security payments will still be paid out according to the Social Security payment schedule. Plus, all of the individuals receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 have already been paid out.

Beneficiaries must remember that Social Security benefit payments follow different dates as opposed to the set SSI payment date. Citizens have received their June SSI check on May 30; however, the Social Security checks will still arrive this month based on each recipient’s birth date.

The good news is that some SSA beneficiaries will be receiving the maximum Social Security benefit of over $5,000 this month. While the maximum Social Security payment is only received by citizens who meet certain criteria, it is worth waiting for.

SSA beneficiaries must remember to wait at least three days before contacting the SSA for late payments, and they must try to ensure they obtain the maximum Social Security benefit by avoiding Social Security mistakes that could cost them thousands.
