Barry Hinson steps down as Southern Illinois head coach
Southern Illinois announced Friday that head basketball coach Barry Hinson would be stepping down after seven seasons with the program. Hinson was 116-111 during his time with the Salukis, who were eliminated from the MVC Tournament on Friday evening.
Hinson, 57, has been coaching at the collegiate level since 1993 and had served as the head coach at Oral Roberts and Missouri State prior to his 2012 arrival in Carbondale.
Looking ahead for SIU, some names that make sense include former SIU player and current Loyola (IL) associate head coach Bryan Mullins, Michigan assistant (and Illinois-native) Luke Yaklich, and Michigan State assistant Dane Fife, the former Fort Wayne head coach who nearly took the Duquesne job last year. Another alum that could be an option is former Missouri State head coach and current Creighton assistant Paul Lusk.
