Full list of Big Eight Conference men’s basketball regular season champions, including head coach, by year. Bold means team went on to win the NCAA National Championship the same year. The Big Eight Conference was active from 1928-29 through the 1995-96 season, originally know as the Big Six, the later as the Big Seven before growing to its final size and name. The conference first formed with a 1928 split from the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA), a league founded in 1906. Kansas won the most Big Eight regular season titles (30), followed by Kansas State (15), Oklahoma (12) and Missouri (11). See also: Big Eight Tournament Champions
