The Big South Conference has awarded Big South Player of the Year honors every season since 1985-86. Coastal Carolina‘s Tony Dunkin won the award four-straight years (1990-93), the only player in Division I men’s college basketball to accomplish this feat. Six other players have won the award twice, the most recent being UNC Asheville‘s Drew Pember (2023 & 2024). Coastal Carolina is the program with the most winners (nine), followed by Winthrop, UNC Asheville (six each), and High Point (five). See also: Big South Coach of the Year
