  • Alma Mater: Bucknell University (BA, 1992)
  • Courtney was a star player for Charlie Woollum at Bucknell, where he was twice named First Team All-Patriot League; later inducted into the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame (c/o 2007)
    • Played briefly in the USBL for the Philadelphia Spirit and also spent several years abroad in Hong Kong and the Philippines
  • Started his collegiate coaching career in 1995 as an assistant under Chris Knoche at American, then joined Jim Larrañaga‘s staff at Bowling Green
    • Followed Larrañaga to George Mason in 1997 and worked with the Patriots for eight seasons, leaving just before the team’s magical run to the NCAA Final Four in 2006 as an 11-seed
  • Had stints working at Providence (under Tim Welsh), Virginia (under Dave Leitao) and Virginia Tech (under Seth Greenberg)
  • Hired in 2010 to be the head coach at Cornell, leading the Big Red for the next six seasons
    • Went 60-113 overall, never finishing higher than 5th in the Ivy League, and was let go in March 2016
  • After a year away, Courtney reunited with Leitao and spent two seasons as one of his assistant coaches at DePaul
  • Re-joined Larrañaga‘s staff in 2019, becoming an assistant coach at Miami (FL); elevated to associate head coach in 2022
    • Was a part of two Sweet Sixteen teams, including the 2023 squad that won the ACC and made it to Final Four
    • In December 2024, Courtney was named interim head coach for the remainder of the season following Larrañaga‘s resignation
