- Hometown: Silverton, Oregon
- Alma Mater: University of Oregon (BS, 1990)
- Graduated from Cottage Grove HS (OR) then played at Central Oregon CC and Southwestern Oregon CC
- Eventually graduated from Oregon but didn’t play basketball for the Ducks
- Joined the coaching staff at Gonzaga in 1991, working as an assistant under Dan Fitzgerald for six seasons
- Stayed at GU until 2007, also working under head coaches Dan Monson and Mark Few
- In 16 total years on the Bulldogs’ bench, Grier was part of 10 NCAA Tournaments and 12 WCC titles
- Hired by WCC foe San Diego in 2007, serving as the head coach of the Toreros for eight seasons
- Led the program to the NCAA Tournament via a WCC Tournament title in his first season at the helm
- Went 117-144 overall before he was fired in 2015 following his fifth sub-.500 record in the previous six years
- Spent one year on Travis Ford‘s staff at Oklahoma State before getting hired by Tad Boyle at Colorado in 2016
