Bob Marlin has been fired as the head men’s basketball coach at Louisiana, the school announced on Thursday. Marlin has been at the helm since 2010 and has an overall record of 269-199 with the Ragin’ Cajuns, including a 3-9 start to this season. The team last played in the NCAA Tournament in 2023, their second appearance under Marlin (2014).
“After an on-going evaluation of our men’s basketball program, it was decided a change was necessary,” AD Dr. Bryan Maggard said. “These decisions are never easy, and this one was not made hastily. I am extremely grateful for the leadership Bob Marlin has provided the past several years. We wish he and his family all the best moving forward.”
Marlin finished above .500 in ten of his fourteen full seasons as head coach, a tenure highlighted by five 20+ win seasons, five postseason appearances, a Sun Belt title in 2018 and two Sun Belt Tournament crowns to earn the NCAA auto bids.
Maggard has elevated Derrick Zimmerman, who has been an assistant with the program since 2021, as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. Louisiana won their first Sun Belt game on Wednesday at the Cajundome over App State and will next play on 12/22 when they host McNeese.
