  • Alma Mater: State University of New York College at Cortland (BA, 1961)
  • The NYC-native played baseball at SUNY Cortland and started his coaching career at the high school level
    • Coached football, basketball and baseball at Massapequa HS (NY) prior to joining the college ranks
  • Spent four seasons as an assistant coach under Chuck Daly at Penn, where he was a part of two NCAA Tournament teams
    • Took over as the Quakers’ head coach in 1977, going 99-45 (61-9) in five seasons at the helm
    • Reached the NCAA Tournament four times, including the program’s first (and still only) trip to the NCAA Final Four in 1979
    • Won or shared the Ivy League title all five seasons (lost tie-breaker in 1981, sending Penn to the NIT instead of NCAAT)
  • Left Penn in 1982 to become the head coach at Arizona State, leading the Sun Devils to a 44-45 record over three seasons
  • Spent one year as the head coach of the Detroit Spirits (CBA), going an even 24-24
  • Worked in the NBA for the rest of his career, serving as both a coach and an executive
    • First worked as a scout with the Philadelphia 76ers, coached by Matt Guokas, then served as an assistant for two seasons there under Jim Lynam (76ers)
      • Spent the 1990-91 season as the assistant GM in Philadelphia
    • Moved on to work under Bob Weiss in Atlanta and then Sidney Lowe in Minnesota
    • Spent two seasons (1994-96) as the GM of the Houston Rockets and the two seasons (1997-99) in the same capacity with the Milwaukee Bucks
