  • Wright played at Marshall for long-time head coach Cam Henderson; named Outstanding Athlete at Marshall as a senior
    • Joined the United States Navy after graduating and before getting into his basketball coaching career
  • Served for many years as a high school coach, including a highly successful five-year tenure at Ashland HS (KY)
    • Wright went 168-29 overall and won a Kentucky state title with Ashland in 1961
  • Hired in 1965 to be the head coach at Morehead State, leading the Eagles for four seasons
    • Went 58-38 overall, highlighted by an 18-9 record and a share of the Ohio Valley title in his fourth year
  • Left coaching and spent the rest of his career working in education
  • Passed away in 2012 at the age of 86 in Pikeville, KY
