- Born May 16, 1937
- Hometown: Los Angeles, California
- Alma Mater: Idaho State University (BA, 1962)
- After graduating from Downey HS (CA), Dye started his college career at Fullerton JC (CA)
- Transferred to Idaho State, where he played two years for head coach John Evans before graduating in 1962
- Returned to Southern California, spending three years as the head coach at St. John Bosco HS in Bellflower, CA
- Was an assistant for two years at Cerritos CC (CA) and then became the head coach at Santa Monica CC (CA) in 1967
- Went 115–50 in six seasons at SMCC and won the CCCAA title in 1972
- Hired in 1973 to be the head coach at Division II Cal State Fullerton; the program moved to Division I the following year
- Was 109-78 in seven years (93-68 in D-I), winning the Big West (then-PCAA) in 1976 and going to the 1978 Elite Eight
- After a year away, Dye was hired as the head coach at then-Division II Cal State Bakersfield in 1981
- Reached the D-II NCAA Final Four in each of his two years in Bakersfield, compiling a 50-12 overall record
- Left for Boise State in 1983, where he would coach the Broncos for 12 years to finish out his collegiate coaching career
- Had an overall record of 213-133 at BSU, going to three NCAA Tournaments and three NITs
- Claimed two Big Sky regular season titles and won three Big Sky Tournaments
- Had an overall record of 213-133 at BSU, going to three NCAA Tournaments and three NITs
- Came out of retirement in 1997 to become the first-ever head coach of the Idaho Stampede of the CBA
- Went 25-31 in the team’s inaugural season, losing in the first round of the playoffs
- Franchise eventually became a part of the NBA D-League (now G-League) and is now known as the Salt Lake City Stars
- Retired for good after the season and moved back to his home state of California
