  • Hometown: Denver, North Carolina
  • Alma Mater: University of North Carolina at Charlotte (BA, 1980) / Winthrop University (MA, 1985) / Clemson University (MA, 1986)
  • The NC-native attended Bandys HS in Catawba and then UNC Charlotte
  • Started career as a teacher and boys basketball coach at Parkwood HS and Bunker Bill HS in his home state
  • Hired in 1984 to join Cliff Ellis‘ staff at Clemson, working as an assistant there for two seasons
  • Spent nine years as the head coach at NAIA Pfeiffer College (NC), going 181-91 over his tenure
    • Won the Carolinas Conference title six times and reached the NAIA Final Four three times (finished runner-up in 1995)
  • Returned to alma mater Charlotte to be an assistant under Jeff Mullins, then stayed on for two years under Melvin Watkins
  • Elevated to head coach of the 49ers in 1998, going 218-158 in 12 seasons at the helm
  • Spent one year on Fred Hoiberg‘s staff at Iowa State then five years with Mark Gottfried at NC State
  • After one year with the D-League’s Windy City Bulls and a couple of years out of coaching
  • Hired by Hoiberg at Nebraska in May 2019 and spent the next two years as special assistant to the head coach
  • Moved on to Ole Miss in 2021, spending one seasons as associate AD for men’s basketball on the staff of head coach Kermit Davis
  • Along with his wife, Janet, has two adult daughters, Natalie and Christine
