Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis fight has fans of boxing split

The boxing world eagerly awaits the fight of the year between Canelo Alvarez and Terrance Crawford. The fight is the latest high-profile matchup in a year that has seen boxing earn significantly more attention than previous years, thanks in no small part to the adoption of the sport into the streaming world. For the past few years, boxing has been trailing behind the more popular MMA scene that the world’s fighting fans have embraced with open arms. But boxing is not known as the sweet science for no reason. Netflix will stream the matchup between Canelo and Crawford on September 13 in Las Vegas.

Insiders are split over who the winner might be in the Canelo vs Crawford fight

The boxing community is a close-knit family. Everyone knows everyone and has encountered each other in some capacity throughout their careers. As a result, everybody and their trainer has an opinion on the next major fight and who the winner might end up being. And boxers are not known for their discretion or subtlety, at least not outside the ring.

Devin Haney, a great fighter in his own right, has recently given his two cents on who might end up taking the win in the Canelo vs Crawford fight. The Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will serve as the perfect destination for Canelo to defend his undisputed super middleweight crown in what could be considered the fight of the year, as both boxers are among the best in the world. Hany shared his thoughts on the odds of Crawford pulling off an upset against Canelo.

“I think it’s a good match-up. It’s a fight that we’ve all been wanting to see. Bud has the skills. He’s got the discipline, IQ to win, but Canelo has all that with the size. So I think it’s a good fight. I’m happy that Bud got the fight. I’m picking Bud. Will it be an easy task? No, but if anyone can do it, I think Bud can.” – Devin Haney

Alvarez brings in a smaller sparring partner to mimic Crawford’s style

Canelo’s camp has drafted in Jaron Ennis to spar with the Mexican ahead of the September fight with Crawford. Ennis is a cruiserweight and gives Canelo a chance to adapt his tactics and game plan for the fight accordingly. Crawford is moving up two weight classes to meet Canelo’s weight class. Iconic boxing trainer Jose Benavidez Sr has stated that he thinks Canelo would have won the fight without bringing in Ennis, but it can’t hurt, right? The Mexican fighter is universally known as one of the best in the world at the moment.

“It’s funny that he brought Ennis to his camp. They know what they’re doing. Even if he hadn’t brought him, I think it would be the same thing. If Crawford doesn’t move and stands in front of him, Canelo can really hurt him. Crawford has never been hit by a big guy like that. Canelo has been hit by a lot of guys that hit harder than Crawford, I believe. I don’t think Crawford has the power to stop Canelo, but you never know. People aren’t giving Crawford a chance because of the weight and how big Canelo is. Sometimes, we see big upsets. I just think Crawford is super small. But if he’s able to drop Canelo, that would be a super surprise,”  – Jose Benavidez Sr

Crawford is the underdog, but Canelo is still the favorite to win overall

In boxing, much like life, success comes when preparation meets opportunity. Boxers are known for doing their homework to prepare for their next fight, at least the good fighters do. And Canelo is exceedingly good at his preparation. One of the key factors in training for a fight is to spar with a partner who mimics your opponent’s style, or is at least the same size. Canelo’s preparation is impressive, and Crawford is looking to make a triumphant return to the ring following a lengthy absence. Who will end up on top?
