  • Son of Tony Barone, former head coach at Texas A&M, Creighton and of the Memphis Grizzlies
    • Attended Texas A&M Consolidated HS in College Station, but also spent time in Peoria, IL and Omaha, NE growing up
  • Started career at Texas A&M, playing for his father for two seasons and earning All-Big 12 honorable mention as a sophomore
    • Transferred to Marquette in 1998 after his father was let go, finishing his career with the Golden Eagles
    • Played for head coaches Mike Deane and Tom Crean; elected team captain as a senior in 2000-01
  • Started his coaching career with one-year stints at Central Florida CC and Garden City CC (KS)
  • Joined Porter Moser‘s staff at Illinois State in 2003, working with the Redbirds for four seasons
  • Returned to Marquette in 2007, spending one year as operations and video coordinator on Crean‘s staff
    • Followed Crean to Indiana in 2008, serving in a similar capacity for two seasons with the Hoosiers
  • Hired as an assistant at Green Bay in 2010 by head coach Brian Wardle, Barone’s former teammate at Marquette
    • Spent four seasons as an assistant and a fifth as associate head coach in Green Bay
  • In 2017, Barone joined the staff of another former MU teammate, Jon Harris, at SIU Edwardsville
    • Harris was let go in March 2019 and the school appointed Barone as the acting head coach
    • In November 2019, the school gave him a contract extension to make him the Cougars’ head coach through 2023-24
    • Led his 2022-23 team to the program’s first ever winning season at the D-I level, finishing 19-14
  • Along with his wife, Mimi, has one son and three daughters
