- Hometown: Rumson, New Jersey
- Alma Mater: Monmouth University (BS, 1990)
- Son of the late Bob Kennedy, a former college and high school coach
- Nephew of Pat Kennedy, a collegiate head coach for 33 years (Iona, Florida State, DePaul, Montana, Towson, Pace)
- Played at both Princeton and Monmouth, graduating from the latter after playing for Wayne Szoke; was team captain as both a junior and senior
- Took over as President of the family business, basketball instructional organization The Hoop Group, after graduating
- First collegiate job was as an assistant at DePaul under his uncle, Pat, from 1997-2002
- Stepped away from coaching to work on Wall Street from 2002 to 2009, then returned to The Hoop Group as Athletic Director from 2009-2012 before taking the assistant position at NJIT
- Spent four seasons as an assistant at NJIT under Jim Engles before taking over as head coach
- Led the Highlanders to the second round of the CIT in 2019
- Went 81-123 during his seven-year tenure at the helm; resigned in March 2023 following a 7-23 season
- Returned to college coaching in 2024, joining Brett Reed‘s staff at Lehigh as an assistant coach
