Brooks Savage introduced as head coach at East Tennessee State

East Tennessee State has officially hired Brooks Savage as its new head men’s basketball coach. Savage was previously an assistant at ETSU for five years before following Steve Forbes to Wake Forest in 2020.

“Coach Savage’s fingerprints were all over the program’s success when he was here as an assistant, and now, we are excited to bring him back home to lead our men’s basketball program,” said AD Dr. Richard Sander. “He has had great success in every place he has coached and he knows what it takes to build a championship program. Brooks will be a tremendous leader for our student-athletes both on and off the court.”

Savage was part of the last ETSU team to reach the NCAA Tournament (2017) and was there for the 2017 and 2020 SoCon titles. Prior to his first tenure in Johnson City, Savage was an assistant at Chattanooga, Presbyterian and Tulane. The SC-native was also a student manager and grad manager for six total seasons, mostly under Bruce Pearl, at Tennessee.

“This is a truly special day for me and my family,” said Savage. “Being named the head coach at ETSU is a dream come true. I couldn’t be more grateful and excited to be back in Johnson City and have the opportunity to lead this proud and storied ETSU program.”

ETSU moved on from previous head coach Desmond Oliver earlier this month after just two seasons at the helm.
