Bryce Drew hired as the new head coach at Grand Canyon

Former Valparaiso and Vanderbilt head coach Bryce Drew has been hired by Grand Canyon, the school announced Tuesday. Drew, who spent this past season working for ESPN, is 164-108 overall as a head coach and was 124-49 in five seasons at alma mater, Valpo. He is also remembered by college basketball fans for a game-winning shot that is played in March Madness compilations each year.

GCU parted ways with Dan Majerle last week after seven seasons with just one postseason berth. The program has one of the best home-court experiences in all of college basketball (let alone West Coast mid-majors) and should be able to compete with New Mexico State for WAC titles every year.

Drew’s tenure at Vanderbilt didn’t go as planned, but he was incredibly successful at the mid-major level. He won the Horizon League in four of his five seasons at Valpo, going to two NCAA Tournaments, two NITs and one CBI.
