• Hometown: Maryville, Missouri
• Alma Mater: Oklahoma A&M College (BA, 1942)
• Won the 1937 Missouri State HS Baksetball Championship with Maryville HS (MO)
• Played for another Missouri-native, Henry Iba, at Oklahoma A&M from 1939-42
  • It was Iba who have Millikan is nickname, starting as “Buddy” and eventually the shortened “Bud”
• Was a member of the Oklahoma State ROTC but asthma kept him from serving during World War II
• Started his coaching career at his alma mater, Maryville HS
  • Also spent time coaching at the high school level in Iowa
• Hired in 1950 to be the head coach at Maryland, his first collegiate opportunity
  • Was 242-181 over seventeen seasons at UMD, coaching through the program’s shift from the SoCon to ACC
  • The Terps were ACC Tournament champs in 1958, eventually reaching the NCAA Elite Eight
  • Resigned in 1967 following an 11-14 (4-10) season
• Passed away in 2010 at the age of 89; survived by his wife, Maxine, and their two children, Marshal and Marla
