- Robert Bower Peterson, Jr.
- Born May 17, 1963
- Hometown: Asheville, North Carolina
- Alma Mater: University of North Carolina (BA, 1986)
- Played at UNC for Hall of Fame head coach Dean Smith; was teammates with Michael Jordan and played on the 1982 National Championship team
- As a senior at Asheville HS, Peterson was named North Carolina HS Player of the Year and Athlete of the Year; Jordan was runner-up for both
- Jordan and Peterson were roommates, with Jordan later serving as best man at Peterson’s wedding
- Drafted in the 8th round of the 1985 NBA Draft; played professionally overseas for several years but never in the NBA
- As a senior at Asheville HS, Peterson was named North Carolina HS Player of the Year and Athlete of the Year; Jordan was runner-up for both
- Spent nine years as an assistant, working under Tom Apke (App State), Les Robinson (ETSU, NC State) and Jan van Breda Kolff (Vanderbilt)
- Was a Division I head coach for 16 of the next 18 seasons, working at App State (twice), Tulsa, Tennessee, Coastal Carolina and UNC Wilmington
- Won 267 games across all jobs, going to one NCAA Tournament, three NITs and one CIT
- In his one year at Tulsa, won 26 games and the 2001 NIT Championship
- In July 2017, Peterson was hired as asst GM to Rich Cho with the Charlotte Hornets; the franchise is owned by Michael Jordan
- Elevated to Senior VP of Basketball Operations and Assistant General Manager in November 2021
