BYD has emerged from out of nowhere to challenge the dominance of the established companies not only in the automotive sector, but the shipping industry as well. However, despite their newfound success in the mobility sector, a new car carrier has been unveiled that could be the end of BYD and China’s entire EV market. With the world entirely dependent on the shipping sector, the logistics companies of the world are carrying the weight of the sustainable carbon goals that we have set for ourselves. The shipping industry has until now been one of the worst polluting industries in the world.

How much of an impact does the shipping industry have on the world?

A huge impact is the answer. Mankind has been using large ships to transport the worlds goods for a very long time indeed. The evidence of humans using boats to transport goods goes back to the stone ages. As civilization grew, so did the ships we used to navigate the treacherous waters of the world. The ship has done more for humanity than almost any other form of transport.

The car carrier is a much more modern creation. The first carriers designed specifically for transporting huge numbers of cars were unveiled in the 1960s. The ships are designed to accommodate the loading and unloading of cars in an efficient manner. The ships also feature several decks to house a large number of vehicles.

The shipping industry overall has been one of the worlds worst polluters. The sheer amount of gasoline and size of the engines needed to propel these huge vessels was astounding. So the ship manufacturers of the world bear the brunt of the world’s carbon reduction goals. And they have heard those calls to reduce their carbon footprint. The “green” revolution of the shipping industry has propelled the sector to the forefront of sustainable engines and technology.

What makes this new car carrier so different from the previous best in the world?

The answer to that is the size and load capacity. The larger the ship, the more energy needed to power it. And the shipping industry has been forced to adapt their means of propulsion. To their credit, they seem to have achieved that. The innovation found in the engineering sector that produces the worlds largest carriers is amazing and a prime example of what is possible when the worlds best minds work together.

The new carrier comes to us from a relatively unknown source (if you don’t live in China). SAIC Anji Logistics has developed the new car carrier under the SAIC Motor Corporation umbrella. They are ranked 10th in China’s logistics enterprises and 1st in the automotive logistics industry. They are responsible for transporting more cars around the world than other other company.

The announcement comes after BYD released their own car carrier that at the time, was the largest in the world. Their emergence as one of the best known Chinese companies has been impressive in an industry that most major automotive giants have struggled. Their car carrier was almost as impressive as it was capable of transporting 9,200 vehicles on board. They have made some serious inroads in the American and global automotive markets.

Can BYD leapfrog the competition and become the global automotive logistics leader?

The advancements and innovations coming from Chinese companies are moving the world forward. The new carrier has set sail for Europe full of cars made in China (mostly MGs). BYD’s car carrier was evidence of its commitment to leading not only the EV sector but also the logistics sector within the automotive market. It has the potential and backing of the Chinese government to take on the world’s largest manufacturers.

Whether that comes from BYD or this new car carrier, we can rest assured that the shipping industry is evolving for good.
