Cameron Dollar fired after eight seasons at Seattle
Seattle fired head coach Cameron Dollar on Monday after eight seasons with the program. During that time, the Redhawks were 118-160 overall and made two CBI appearances. This season, Dollar’s squad finished 6th in the WAC with a 5-9 record.
Dollar was hired at Seattle in 2009, when the program was a Division I independent. It wasn’t until the 2012-13 season that the Redhawks were officially a part of the WAC. Dollar had spent the previous ten seasons as an assistant to Lorenzo Romar, first at Saint Louis and then at nearby Washington.
Though he is originally from Atlanta, Dollar’s playing and coaching career has been mostly on the West Coast. He played four years at UCLA, first for Jim Harrick then as a senior for Steve Lavin. He started coaching right after graduation, spending the 1998-99 as head coach at Southern California College.
Speculation has already begun that Dollar will return to Romar’s staff at UW for next season, as the Huskies continue to struggle. Romar’s team has missed the NCAA Tournament for six straight years and have not been the same since Dollar left. With another prized recruit coming to campus next year – Michael Porter Jr. – Dollar may be what the program needs to get back on track.
As for Seattle, the search will begin immediately to fill what is a pretty tough head coaching gig.
