Caterham has a special place in the hearts of the automotive world. Their lightweight cars have become the standard for driving pleasure and have punched way above their weight, competing with the fastest and most powerful cars in the world. As the world has embraced the electrification of our cars, Caterham is set to release a new electric sports car, the Project V. Caterham has a long history of challenging the established car makers in the automotive industry with its lightweight sports cars that put an emphasis on the driving experience.

Caterham has been redefining the sports car since the 70s

Caterham got its name from the location where it was founded. On a rainy day in 1959, Graham Nearn founded the iconic car company in Caterham, Surrey, England. The company got its first taste of success when, in 1973, it acquired the rights to produce the Lotus Seven, evolving it into Caterham’s first flagship car with the same name, the 7.

Caterham continued to refine the 7 for 50 years, and the model has become synonymous with motorsport and the thrill of driving. Caterham has continued to evolve the 7 by incorporating modern enhancements while preserving its classic charm. This has led to immense success in the automotive sector and the motorsport world. Caterham is now an F1 team.

Can Caterham embrace the electrification of the automotive sector?

As the world has embraced the electrification of the automotive industry, questions have been raised as to how a relatively small company like Caterham would approach the electrification of its models. The world’s top automotive manufacturers all have a vast array of vehicles for sale. From traditional gasoline-powered cars to EVs and even hybrids, the automotive sector is changing.

How has Caterham managed to produce the all-electric Project V?

At its debut at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Project V amazed the world with its lightweight design and incredible performance. Caterham took some time to work on the design and has now released the latest model to the public at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon. The major hindrance for Caterham in embracing the electric revolution has been producing a battery pack. Innovation is necessary for the EV to evolve, and innovation is what we find in the Project V.

A partnership that will propel the electric vehicle into the future.

At the Tokyo Auto Salon, Caterham revealed how they were able to produce their new Project V model through a partnership. Caterham has teamed up with XING Mobility to produce the necessary technology for the Project V. XING Mobility’s IMMERSIO CTP (cell-to-pack) battery technology enables the car to showcase its immersive cooling battery systems, which can cool a battery pack from a few thousand degrees to a safe temperature in just 30 seconds.

The pair have been working together for some time now to develop the new all-electric Project V. When asked about the partnership, Royce Hong, CEO of XING Mobility, stated the following:

“Caterham’s philosophy of simplicity and lightweight design perfectly aligns with our vision for innovation, simplicity, and efficiency.”

Will Caterham’s Project V drive the sports car into the all-electric future?

As the automotive world enters the electric era, companies like Caterham are forced to adapt their cars to the requirements of the drivers of tomorrow. Project V will have 268 horsepower from its electric motor and 55 kWh of battery capacity. When we consider the 2,600-pound weight, the performance will be astounding and rival sports cars from any car maker. The EV represents the innovation taking place in the automotive sector, and this new all-electric sports car from Caterham has set the standard for the sports car of tomorrow. Project V is set for release sometime in 2025.
