Russ Pennell taking indefinite leave from Central Arkansas

After a 1-9 start, Central Arkansas head coach Russ Pennell has announced that he will take an indefinite leave of absence from the program. Pennell was hired by UCA, in 2014 and has won 50 games in his tenure as head coach. He played at the school in the 1980s alongside Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen.

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman initially reported that Pennell has been fired, but it appears the two sides decided on a leave of absence instead.

Moving forward, associate head coach Anthony Boone will take over as interim head coach.

AD Brad Teague said that he was “unsure” if Pennell would be returning at any point this season.
