  • Played for head coach Frank Kerns at Georgia Southern, earning all-conference honors three times
    • Inducted into the Georgia Southern Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008
    • Briefly played professionally in France in 1994, then returned to GSU to finish his degree
  • Started his coaching career in 1996 as an administrative assistant on Cliff Ellis’ staff at Auburn
  • Returned to Auburn in 2000, working under Ellis for another four seasons as an assistant coach
  • After one year under John Shulman at Chattanooga, Young joined Paul Hewitt‘s staff at Georgia Tech
    • Worked at GT for four seasons, including a trip to the 2007 NCAA Tournament
  • Became a head coach in 2009 when he was hired at alma mater Georgia Southern
    • Went 43-84 over four years in Statesboro, improving the teams’ record but failing to reach the postseason
    • Fired in March 2013 following a 14-19 season, featuring the program’s first ever win over an ACC team (Va Tech)
  • Joined Leonard Hamilton‘s staff at Florida State as an assistant in June 2013, working with the Seminoles for nine years
    • Was a part of four NCAA Tournament appearances (going to the 2019 Sweet Sixteen and 2018 Elite Eight)
  • Left in April 2022 to become associate head coach at Missouri under Dennis Gates, another former FSU assistant
  • Along with his wife, Carolyn, has two daughters and two sons
