Chicago State, Lance Irvin decide to part ways
Chicago State and head men’s basketball coach Lance Irvin have parted ways, the school announced on Thursday. Irvin was hired in 2018 but opted out of last season due to COVID-19 concerns. According to the release, Irvin’s termination is without cause and therefore the terms of his contract will be honored.
Not including last season, the Cougars were just 7-54 during Irvin’s tenure and were winless in WAC contests (0-30). Last season the team was led by assistants while Irvin was away but the team went just 0-9 before cutting the season short.
The Chicago State program has appeared in just one D-I postseason tournament – the 2013 CIT – and is entering its final season in the WAC with no announced plans on its next destination.

I am confident that we will identify and hire a tremendous new coach who will bring us success on the court and lead our young men off the court.”
