Electric vehicles are dominating the automotive industry, but China has written a new auto story and introduced something with the possibility of overtaking every electric vehicle in the world. China’s introduction to this new invention might have changed the whole script about EVs and will push automakers to pause for a while, watch, and learn. A Chinese automotive giant named Geely, which is already known for its tech innovations, has taken a leap of faith and embraced hydrogen mobility. It looks like the EV industry just gained a strong new rival.
This is not just another basic production in China, but an auto inspiration
This is not another car story whereby we wait for years for scientists and automakers to finalise everything in their labs and industries; rather, it is a tangible product that is slowly changing the narrative. This is not an American or European inspiration but a Chinese one in its heartland. We know China; it never stops. It always delivers and ensures it dominates while producing quality, too.
We are talking about a 603 hp engine and the mass production of these futuristic engines. While hydrogen has also dominated in its own way, there have been some hiccups here and there; however, China has found a way for hydrogen mobility to soar. It is clean, sustainable, and revolutionary, and while its storage solutions are in the works, China is ensuring the world understands its power in the meantime.
The industry has been rocked by Geely’s 603 hp hydrogen truck’s mass production power
Earlier this year, Geely, a Chinese brand that’s relatively new in the global market, commenced the mass production of its brand called Xinghan G, a hydrogen fuel cell truck. In March 2025, about 100 units were already rolled off to Geey’s commercial vehicle arm, Farizon’s Tianjin factory. Although the first production can be perceived and expected to have many mistakes, they believe that it will be a top powertrain ready to devour the EV sector.
Geely is also behind the production of famous car brands such as Volvo and Polestar; therefore, we can have some hope that this will be one of the best because the two mentioned brands are part of the well-known, preferred, and respected car brands. We can expect that China is not wasting time but working on something that can change the industry and customers.
China’s Xinghan G, a hydrogen fuel cell truck, promises to deliver:
- Hydrogen capacity of 62 kilograms and a 700-kilometre drive range.
- A 200 kW hydrogen fuel cell driving a 450 kW peak electric motor.
- Maintaining warmth and heat during cold seasons.
- Longer travelling times.
This is a perfect match because logistics plays a significant role in economies; therefore, if companies can make use of this truck, they are guaranteed longer routes and driving times. Additionally, something that China might have forgotten to mention is that hydrogen is faster to refuel compared to an electric vehicle or truck. This is more significant because if one is travelling for hours, fast refuelling is a bargain.
An overview of China’s international hydrogen policy
China is going bigger and better, but that is because hydrogen has more advantages than negative effects, considering that it emits water vapour too. Also, Geely’s effort is just not about growing in China, but an international hydrogen policy promising to turn off every EV in the world. Geely’s Farizon trucks, which are supported by national and municipal government regulations, are made to work with a whole hydrogen ecosystem, from national refuelling networks to hydrogen production driven by renewable energy. The company aims to produce trucks that reduce emissions in the long run.
