- Hometown: South Sioux City, Nebraska
- Alma Mater: South Dakota State University (BS, 2011)
- Was a star basketball and football player at Bishop Heelan High School (NE) and then went on to play basketball for head coach Scott Nagy at South Dakota State (2007-11), where he was a four-year starter – earned All-Summit League Second-Team honors as a senior
- Played professionally for two seasons in Germany for USC Heidelberg (2011-13)
- Returned to SDSU in 2013 and spent several years working on Nagy‘s staff as his Basketball Operations Coordinator
- Followed Nagy to Wright State in 2016, spending five years as an assistant coach and then three more as associate head coach
- In those eight years he was a part of two Horizon League titles, two NCAA Tournaments and one NIT
- In March 2024, Sargent was elevated to head coach at Wright State following Nagy’s departure to Southern Illinois
