  • Grew up on Chicago’s South Shore, where he was valedictorian at Mount Carmel HS
    • His younger sister is former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, making Robinson the brother-in-law of Former President of the United States Barack Obama
  • Played at Princeton for legendary head coach Pete Carril; twice named Ivy League POY
    • Was encouraged by Carril to pursue business after a brief professional career
    • Got his MBA from UChicago and worked in finance and banking industries
    • Coached the University of Chicago Lab School (HS) team for one season and was an assistant at Illinois Institute of Technology for two years
  • Started his college coaching career in 2000, working on fellow Carril disciple Bill Carmody‘s staff at Northwestern for six years
  • Spent two seasons as the head coach at Brown, improving the Bears team from 10-17 before he arrived to 19-10 and a CBI berth by his second year
  • Hired by Oregon State in April 2008, taking over a team that went 6-25 (0-18) in 2007-08
    • Went 18-18 and won the 2009 CBI Championship in his first season
    • Led the Beavers to four CBI appearances in six years, but never finished higher than 5th in the Pac-12 standings
    • Fired from his position in May 2014, receiving a $4 million buyout for the remainder of his contract
  • Worked at ESPN as a college basketball analyst for the 2014-15 season
  • Spent one year in the Milwaukee Bucks front office and then spent three years in the New York Knicks front office as VP of Player/Organization Development
  • In July 2020, the NABC announced that Robinson was succeed Jim Haney as the organization’s Executive Director
  • Along with his wife, Kelly, has two sons, as well as a son and daughter from a previous marriage
