The Dallas Cowboys have made their intentions for this years NFL Draft clear. They are preparing some substantive trades according to Jerry Jones. The Cowboys have a long list of positions that they need to improve on. Their options in the draft are not limited however. They currently hold the 12th overall pick in the first round of this years NFL draft. The comments by Jones have led many to speculate as to what the Cowboys have planned. Their plans will be affected by what the other teams do further up the pecking order.
What does this years draft have in store for the teams at the top of the order?
The NFL Draft has the ability to dominate the headlines around the league weeks before the start of the season. And this year is no different. The Tennessee Titans hold this years number 1 pick. The obvious choice for them would be either Cam Ward or Travis Hunter. The Titans finished last season in last place with a 6-11 record. So they desperately need that number one pick.
Second pick in the 2025 draft goes to the Cleveland Browns. Their needs are a long list as well. Top of those will most likely be a quarterback. However, they are in need of a offensive tackle as well. Some have speculated that they will make a move try to to get Travis Hunter. The Cleveland Browns record last season was 3-14. They finished last in the AFC North division.
Third pick goes to the New York Giants. Now their options are going to depend on what the Browns do. However, their interest in Shedeur Sanders has been highlighted recently as they were the team that showed the most interest in the quarterback. They were at more of his games and gave him more workouts than any other team. So where does this leave the Cowboys?
What are the Dallas Cowboys top options for the draft?
The top pundits have agreed on one thing for the Dallas Cowboys, they are in need of another wide receiver to compliment Cee Dee Lamb. Now they have a few options if that’s the way they choose to go. Namely, Tetairoa McMillan out of Arizona. The big-bodied wide receiver had 33 receptions on balls thrown 20 or more yards downfield, which led the country.
Next positional choice would be to acquire a running back. A position they have sorely lacking in. The running game is crucial to any teams success and Omarion Hampton could be a great choice for Dallas. He is a player that might get overlooked by the other teams in the draft. He hails out of North Carolina and has gotten a very remarkable reputation as a solid running back.
Whatever the Dallas Cowboys’ plans are for the draft. We know that they will be looking to add some firepower to their offense. The defense has been solidified. They need someone to compliment Cee Dee Lamb on the opposite end of the field. Whether that be one of the above mentioned players is yet to be seen. Dak Prescott needs some more options to throw the ball to when he snaps the ball.
What drama will we see on the first day of the NFL Draft?
A lot has happened in the offseason this year. And this years draft offers less quarterbacks than previous years. The most talked about player in this years draft is easily Shedeur Sanders. The Cowboys had a disappointing season last year after just missing the playoffs with a 7-10 record, finishing third in the NFC East. This year the hoards of fans in Dallas will be hoping for a return to the kind of success that saw them become a household name around the world in the 80’s. No matter what this year’s draft brings, we can not wait for it to begin.
