- Graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep (CA) before playing at San Francisco for head coach Peter Peletta
- Was a teammate at both places with lifelong friend and fellow USF head coach Jim Brovelli
- Started out coaching in the SF recreation league before getting an assistant job at alma mater St. Ignatius (CA)
- Became the freshmen head coach at USF in 1966 (while the varsity team was coached by Phil Vukicevich) and later worked as a Dons’ assistant under Bob Gaillard
- Worked his way up to head coach at USF in 1978, leading the Dons to two WCC titles in two years
- Reached the Sweet Sixteen in 1979 and was named WCC COY for that season
- Fired in 1980 after the program was placed on probation twice during his short tenure
- Has worked in broadcast for many years for the past 40 years, calling college basketball games on television
- Also works in the private sector as an executive at an Audi dealership in Burlingame, CA
