  • Hometown: Mullens, West Virginia
  • Alma Mater: Marshall University (BA, 1970 & MA, 1972)
  • Played at Marshall in his home state of West Virginia, later coaching his younger brother – future NBA coach Mike D’Antoni – on the freshman team and then spending one year as a full-time assistant
    • Was inducted into the Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990
  • Spent thirty years as the head coach at Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach, SC – won over 500 games and was inducted into the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame (in 2016)
    • Also served as an AAU coach with Beach Ball Select, coaching future NBA players Raymond Felton and Ramon Sessions
  • Was an assistant for nine seasons – across three teams – in the NBA under his brother, Mike
  • Returned to Marshall in 2014 as head coach of his alma mater, leading the Herd to a 20-win season in year three on the job
    • Won the 2018 Conference USA Tournament to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament, the first for the program since 1985
    • A year later, D’Antoni led the Herd to win the 2019 CIT title
    • In 2022-23, the program’s first year in the Sun Belt, the Herd went 24-7 and finished in 2nd in the league
    • Went 177-148 in ten total seasons at the helm; tenure ended in March 2024 when Cornelius Jackson was named head coach
