- Born March 5, 1947
- Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri
- Alma Mater: Memphis State University (BA, 1970)
- Played at Memphis State for head coach Moe Iba; also spent one year on Iba’s staff as a student assistant while finishing his degree
- In 2002, Loos was inducted into the Memphis Athletics Hall of Fame
- Became a full-time assistant at Christian Brothers University (also in Memphis, TN) in 1970, where he remained for four seasons before becoming the head coach at Mehlville High School outside of St. Louis, MO in 1974
- Returned to CBU in 1982 to become the head basketball coach; compiled a 82-53 record in four years at the Division II school
- Joined Larry Finch‘s staff at Memphis State in 1986 as the top assistant, where he stayed until he was hired in 1990 as the head coach at Austin Peay
- Spent 27 seasons as Governors’ head coach, winning an OVC-record 420 games and going to the postseason eight times (w/ four NCAA Tournaments)
- Loos served as APU’s athletic director from 1997-2013; relinquished AD duties to focus solely on basketball again in 2013
- In 2016, Loos announced that he would take a leave of absence to undergo chemotherapy for a cancerous lymph node
- Loos retired in March 2017 immediately following the 2016-17 season
- Along with his wife, Phyllis, has four children and nine grandchildren; one of his sons – Brad Loos – is also a basketball coach
