  • Dave Magarity
  • Born January 26, 1950
  • Hometown: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Alma Mater: Saint Francis University (BS, 1974)
  • The Philly-native played for head coaches John Clark, John Hiller and Dick Conover at Saint Francis (PA)
  • Two years after graduating, Magarity became an assistant at his alma mater under new head coach Pete Lonergan
    • Elevated to head coach in 1978, going 60-76 in five seasons at the helm
  • Spent three seasons as an assistant under Pat Kennedy at Iona, where he was part of two NCAA Tournament appearances
  • Hired in 1986 to be the head coach at Marist, serving in that role for the next eighteen seasons
    • Compiled a 253-259 record overall, winning the ECAC Metro (now NEC) title and an NCAA berth in his first year
    • Magarity’s first teams were led by 2x NEC POY and future NBA All-Star Rik Smits
    • Finished .500 or better ten times, later on sharing the 2002 MAAC title after the program changed leagues in 1997
    • Stepped down in 2004 after the Foxes finished 6-22 (4-14 MAAC)
  • Served as assistant commissioner of the MAAC from 2004-05 and briefly in the same role with the MAC in 2005
  • Returned to coaching for the 2005-06 season, joining Maggie Dixon’s staff with the Army women’s basketball program
    • Took over as head coach in 2006 following Dixon’s tragic death and served in that capacity for 15 seasons
    • Compiled a 266-183 record overall, went to two NCAA Tournaments and two WNITs; retired after the 2020-21 season
  • Along with his wife, Rita, has two daughters and one son; daughter, Maureen, was his assistant at Army
    • During the 2020-21 season, Dave’s Army team faced Maureen’s Holy Cross team four times, the first-ever father vs. daughter head coaching match-ups in Division I women’s basketball history (Holy Cross won three out of four)
