George Mason head coach Dave Paulsen fired after six seasons

George Mason head men’s basketball coach Dave Paulsen was fired Tuesday after six seasons at the helm. He reached the postseason once (the 2017 CBI) and finished his tenure with a 95-91 overall record.

“After an extensive review and evaluation of our men’s basketball program, I have decided to make a change in our leadership,” AD Brad Edwards said in a release. “I am grateful for Dave’s commitment, tireless work and leadership in directing our program over the past six years. He did an admirable job in stabilizing our program. Every decision he has made centers around the well-being of our student-athletes and what is best for them both academically and athletically. Dave has represented our university and athletic department in a first-class manner and is very well-regarded among his peers in the basketball community.”

Paulsen came to Mason in 2015 after an impressive seven-year stint at Bucknell, during which time he went to two NCAA Tournaments and two NITs and won four Patriot League titles. That success did not carry over, however, and he leaves only a few games above .500.
