- Alma Mater: College of William & Mary (BA, 1995 & M.Ed., 1996)
- Played four seasons at William & Mary under head coaches Chuck Swenson and Charlie Wollum
- Started his coaching career as a teacher and assistant coach at Archbishop Carroll HS (DC)
- Was also working as a coach with the DC Assault AAU program
- First collegiate job came in 2006, when Cox became DBO under Jamie Dixon at Pittsburgh
- Spent three seasons as an assistant under John Thompson III at Georgetown, then three seasons at Rutgers under Mike Rice Jr.
- Served as interim head coach for three games at Rutgers in 2012 – going 3-0 – though the school officially attributes those games to Rice, who was suspended during that stretch
- After Rice was let go, Cox stayed on the Rutgers staff for one more season under Eddie Jordan
- Joined Dan Hurley‘s staff at Rhode Island as an assistant in 2014; elevated to associate head coach in 2016
- Became the head coach at Rhode Island in April 2018, about two weeks after Hurley left for UConn
- Went 64-55 in four seasons at the helm without any postseason appearances; fired in March 2022
- Hired by Kevin Willard in 2022 to be an assistant at Maryland; elevated to associate head coach in 2023
- Along with his wife, Tasha, has one daughter and one son
