  • Grandfather Jim Padgett played at Oregon State and was the head coach at California from 1968-72 and Nevada 1972-76
  • Son of Pete Padgett, a former player at Nevada and longtime head coach of David’s alma mater Reno High School
  • Was a McDonald’s All-American in 2003 out of Reno HS (NV) and spent his first year of college playing for Bill Self at Kansas
    • Transferred to Louisville, playing for three seasons under head coach Rick Pitino
    • Went un-drafted in 2008, but played for two seasons overseas in Spain
  • After two years as the strength coach at Louisville, became a full-time assistant at IUPUI under head coach Todd Howard
  • Returned to Louisville in 2014 as DBO, then was promoted a year later to full-time assistant
  • As of 2023, Padgett is working as an on-air analyst for ESPN CBB and as a financial advisor with Morgan Stanley in Louisville
