- Alma Mater: Whitworth University (BA, 2011) / Eastern Washington University (MS, 2013)
- Born in Seattle, Riley was raised in the Bay Area and graduated from Gunn HS in Palo Alto, HS
- Played for Jim Hayford at D-III Whitworth in Spokane, WA for four seasons, earning all-conference honors every year
- Hayford left for Eastern Washington in 2011 and Riley joined his staff as a graduate assistant
- Riley has worked his way up the ranks at EWU, spending one season as DBO and six as an assistant coach
- Hayford left for Seattle in 2017 but Riley remained on staff under Shantay Legans for the next five seasons; in 2020, Legans elevated Riley to associate head coach and that year the Eagles made it to the NCAA Tournament
- Legans was hired by Portland in March 2021 and the later that week Riley was promoted to head coach at EWU
- Riley led the Eagles to an outright Big Sky title in 2022-23, his second season at the helm, and was named Big Sky COY
