Most-awaited stimulus checks arrive this summer — More than $700 for these eligible people

Don’t get iced out of this deal when you could be claiming $300 before the deadline of Wednesday, 18 June 2025. As per a new class action settlement, certain refrigerator brands are in hot water over refrigerators that have been icing over. All customers who purchased certain KitchenAid, Maytag, or Whirlpool three-door refrigerators between 2012 and 2019 may be eligible for a $300 compensation as per this class action settlement. However, the deadline to submit a claim is fast approaching, and citizens should not miss out.

Understanding the reason behind the class action settlement

According to the lawsuit entitled Paperno, et al. v. Whirlpool Corp., there are specific models of Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and Maytag refrigerators that had defective evaporators leading to a lot of frost and ice build-up. Due to the buildup of ice, cooling failures resulted, and much of the food in these refrigerators spoiled.

The defective evaporators can be blamed on a design flaw by Whirlpool that, according to allegations, this flaw had been deliberately concealed. Despite the allegations, Whirlpool denied any wrongdoing. The well-known brand has nevertheless agreed to a class action settlement with the offer of cash reimbursement for consumers who faced problems with these refrigerators.

What will eligible claimants receive?

According to this class agreement settlement, all payments will be made based on when the respective refrigerator needed a service or was replaced:

  • Refrigerators that required a service or needed to be replaced within 1-3 years of manufacture would receive up to $300 for repairs and up to 75% of the original purchase price.
  • Refrigerators that required a service or needed to be replaced within 4-6 years of manufacture would receive up to $225 for repairs and up to 45% of the original purchase price for a replacement.
  • Refrigerators that required a service or needed to be replaced within 7-8 years of manufacture would receive up to $150 for repairs with no replacement reimbursement.

As per the settlement, repairs or replacements after January 31, 2025, would also be covered so long that any repair or replacement needed to happen within 8 years of the refrigerator’s purchase. Another famous company in hot water is Google due to the Google AdWords Lawsuit.

Who will qualify under this settlement agreement?

Customers of Whirlpool Corp. who want to find out if they are eligible must consider the following eligibility criteria:

  • Anyone who purchased or received a Whirlpool, Maytag, or KitchenAid three-door refrigerator as a gift between 2012 and 2019 will be deemed eligible.
  • Those who acquired a Whirlpool, Maytag, or KitchenAid three-door refrigerator as part of a remodeling package can also claim.
  • If the ice or frost problem occurs after the notice date, you can still claim within 90 days of replacement or repair, but this must still happen within the 8-year eligibility window.
  • A valid claim form needs to be submitted by June 18, 2025, via the settlement website to be eligible.
  • Citizens who are not eligible should not file false claims, which is fraud and can affect other valid claimants.

The model and serial numbers of the device are important, as some form of purchase of purchase or ownership. Customers who want to claim the costs of repairs have to submit evidence like a repair slip, invoice, or service record.

Customers can check eligibility by entering their refrigerator’s serial number on the manufacturer’s website. For those consumers who had the frost problem, the deadline to claim is quickly approaching. It’s important to get all claims in before that deadline. If eligible claimants act before June 23, they could also receive $5,300 for the Retina Group of Washington’s (RGW) March 2023 data breach settlement. For more information about this settlement, you can visit Top Class Actions and get informed about how to file a claim.

Disclaimer: You should not submit false or inflated claims under penalty of perjury, as class‑action claim forms historically required declarations signed “under penalty of perjury” to ensure authenticity. Submitting a fraudulent claim not only carries legal exposure—including potential civil and criminal sanctions—but also harms other eligible class members by diluting the available settlement pool.
