Deion Sanders hired as Colorado head coach

Colorado made it official on Saturday evening, announcing the hiring of Deion Sanders as the Buffs’ head football coach. Sanders is coming off a second-straight SWAC Championship as the head coach at Jackson State.

“There were a number of highly qualified and impressive candidates interested in becoming the next head football coach at Colorado,” AD Rick George said in a statement, “but none of them had the pedigree, the knowledge and the ability to connect with student-athletes like Deion Sanders. Not only will Coach Prime energize our fanbase, I’m confident that he will lead our program back to national prominence while leading a team of high quality and high character.”

Sanders has made an incredible impact on college football from FCS Jackson State, an HBCU that has moved into the national spotlight since they hired “Coach Prime” in 2020. Three years later, Sanders is 27-5 overall (12-0 this year) and likely the hottest name on this year’s coaching circuit.
